Dear Friends,
We are a community of artists that share resources, exchange ideas, and sometimes work side-by-side, en plein air or in a studio environment.
We meet and work together, share the cost of models, and shape each other’s opinions through heated discussions and excursions to exhibitions and museums where we visit our heroes (who faced the same bare canvas that we face).
I thought to call us the Southbank Artists.
For social, financial and cultural reasons, artists are often pushed out to the fringes of society and locales. Many of the world's great cities have a thriving art community south of the river. Shakespeare’s Globe was in Southwark, on the south bank of the Thames. The famous Left Bank in Paris is south of the Seine. I wanted to embrace this.
You will find here a link to SouthbankArtists.com and some of the artists I am lucky enough to call my friends. I think you will enjoy browsing through their work, or you might be lucky enough to take a class with one of them.
I've heard it said that art is not art until it's sold. Until then, it's an obsession and a storage problem! If you love art, please buy the work of living artists. Your purchase is sometimes all the encouragement and support it takes to keep this fragile endeavor going.
