Dear Friends,
We are a community of student and professional artists that share resources, exchange ideas, and work side-by-side in a studio environment.
We meet and work together, share the cost of models, and shape each other’s opinions through heated discussions and excursions to exhibitions and museums where we visit our heroes (who faced the same bare canvases that we face).
I have given a name to our group: the Southbank Artists.
Often for financial reasons, artists are pushed out to the fringes of society and locales. Shakespeare’s Globe was in Southwark, on the south bank of the Thames. Some of my favorite places in Paris are on the (south) Left Bank of the Seine. I wanted to embrace this.
You will find here a link to SouthbankArtists.com and some of the artists I am lucky enough to call my friends. I think you will enjoy browsing through their work, or you might be lucky enough to take a class with one of them.
I've heard it said that art is not art until it's sold. Until then, it's an obsession and a storage problem! If you love art, please buy the work of living artists. Your purchase is sometimes all the encouragement and support it takes to keep this fragile endeavor going.
I welcome you to return as this site evolves and I can post a gallery of recent work from my fellow painters.
With love and gratitude,
Sean Keating
